The Best Clubs in New Orleans
Jul 13 , 2011
Dance the stresses of your workweek away with celebrities, sing your favorite song to the crowds during karaoke, and try a taste of a drink called Witch's Brew at an underground dungeon. Once you try out each of these clubs in New Orleans you'll be saying, "Mardi Gras who?"
Club Ampersand: And then the party started
Dance all night in the same place where Tiesto, Lil’ Wayne, and other well-known artists have each performed. Club Ampersand is a hot, chic club that is located on Tulane Avenue in the central business district. In this two-leveled club, two bars are separated by a large dance floor where a large crown can always be seen dancing to the latest tunes spun by the DJs.
A VIP suite, balcony, courtyard, and lounges are also available for you to rest from breaking a sweat on the dance floor. As with any of the best clubs in New Orleans, you never know who you might be sitting next when you take a break; Sandra Bullock, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Wilmer Valderrama are all frequent guests of Club Ampersand.
The Dungeon Club: Nightmare before Christmas style
Here’s the best way to describe The Dungeon Club: it’s like Halloween every single night. Even if Halloween isn’t your most preferred holiday, don’t shy away from one of the best clubs in New Orleans yet. Peak inside and experience one of the most chilling nights of your life on Toulouse Street in the French Quarter. Upon entering the Dungeon Club, you will have the option of partaking in numerous bar activities, such as video poker, pool, or watching your favorite sports teams play.
Once you get past The Front of the Dungeon is when the real fun begins. Make your way to the devilish dance floor or continue on through wrought iron gates, over moats, and passed skulls to the three different bars and order one of The Dungeon Club’s signature drinks like Dragon’s Blood, Witch’s Brew, or Midnight Potion. The best part about this underground club is that there’s no need to bring a watch to keep track of time considering that it doesn’t close until the last person leaves.
The Maison: Live music, live crowd
If you are the type of person who would rather show off your dance moves to live music instead of the tunes of a DJ, then The Maison is the place for you. At this club in New Orleans you can find live musical performances from 5 p.m. until close seven days a week. From Hip Hop and Rock to Jazz, Funk, and Blues, music of all types can be heard on any given day of the week. Every Monday is open mic night so be sure to bring your best singing skills to show off in front of the crowds. If singing isn’t necessarily your forte, then don’t forget your dancing shoes for the dance party with DJ Jubilee on the first Saturday of every month.
Mo’s Chalet: Karaoke, prizes, smiles
With a different event scheduled for each night of the week, Mo’s Chalet is the type of club that literally has something for everyone. Sing your heart out on Mondays at Mo’s for their karaoke night. On the first and last Tuesday of each month, celebrate your birthday and get prizes just for showing up to this club in New Orleans.
Reserve your Wednesday nights for the Eddie Powers Band and listen to some of your favorite oldies, and your Thursday evenings for some Latin dancing. Friday and Saturdays are always the favorites as these are the nights when local bands perform. Finally, end your week with Jazz Night, New Orlean’s most beloved type of music.
Now that you’ve gotten a feel for New Orleans clubs, learn about the French Quarter and Bourbon Street.
